Brandy Pryes & Ashley Busch

Guest Story: Brandy Pryes & Ashley Busch

Pulaski, Wis.

Kathy’s House makes you feel like a community. It’s nice to have.

Over the years, Kathy’s House has been fortunate to have the support of Lions Clubs throughout Wisconsin and beyond. It’s rare, however, to talk to a guest who is also a member.

For Brandy Pryes and her daughter Ashley Busch, however, the connection is beyond skin deep. The two members of Pulaski Lions Club are eager to share photos and stories of their experience – and the impact that Kathy’s House is having on guests from their community and beyond.

“It’s been amazing here,” says Brandy. “It has been a godsend; it really has. Being able to be this close to the hospital, not having to worry about a vehicle, having the kitchen where we can make our food, and having the people come in and make meals – it’s been amazing.”

Beyond the amenities, however, Brandy and Ashley have been struck by the care of the community here. “The support system adds that extra home feeling,” Brandy says. You know others are going through something similar to what you are. You can help them as well as them helping you.”

Brandy and Ashley also appreciate the serene surroundings, which are conducive to hominess as well as healing. “It’s open and quiet and not the middle of town,” Ashley says. “I’m a small town person. I’m not a big city girl. This is a godsend not having the stress of all the noise.”

Coming together in comfort and safety has made Brandy & Ashley want to give back. They’ve donated to-go containers and condiments. They’ve also shared some yummy baked goods with other guests, like Brandy’s tasty sopapilla. She’s refined the recipe for meetings of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, where she is also active. It just goes to show that the kindness and compassion that fuels Kathy’s House begets the kindness and compassion of others.
