“Refuge” is a word that Kevin Schuh used often when describing Kathy’s House. And it’s a word that adequately describes his stay. “Walking over here for the first time was just refreshing. I love everything about it. It’s civilized, beautiful, clean, peaceful, and quiet. It’s perfect,” Kevin said.
For three weeks, he spent nights at Kathy’s House between 14-hour days at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin. He was caring for his husband David, who wasrecovering from a traumatic car accident, so he appreciated the proximity to the hospital. If David called, Kevin was just a moment away. “It’s a seven-minute walk, room-to-room,” Kevin said.
Kevin has also been grateful for the community of care. He has found support being among other guests and sustenance from the volunteer-provided meals. “There’s a sense of not being alone,” he said.
