Mission, Vision, Values
Kathy’s House is a hospital guest house committed to providing affordable lodging and caring support in a “home away from home” environment for families who need to travel to Milwaukee for medical care.
Kathy’s House is a caring place where guests can eat, sleep, and be with others when they want – or be alone when they need time, introspection, and quiet healing. The house provides a place where mutual support thrives – one of the great strengths of Kathy’s House.
A vital resource in the Milwaukee health care community, Kathy’s House is the only hospital guest house in the area that serves patients of all ages and their caregivers and serves all the hospitals in Milwaukee. Any patient receiving outpatient treatment at a Milwaukee area hospital, along with their caregiver(s), is eligible to become a guest at Kathy’s House. Caregivers of patients in a Milwaukee area hospital are also eligible. Read our Guest Policy to learn more. The application process for a prospective guest starts with a Referral from a health care professional.
Become a replicable national model in the field of Hospital Guest Housing by developing a state of the art facility and delivering superior guest services which improve patient care and the healthcare delivery model.
Hospital Guest Houses are respected as a valuable community resource for those in need of accommodation while traveling long distances to receive medical attention. Kathy’s House allows guests – both caregivers and patients – to focus on health and healing. Studies show that having family and friends nearby during a health crisis can reduce the length of hospital stays, reduce re-admissions, and improve health outcomes. Having a patient’s family or friends as part of the medical team helps reinforce the plan of care during the patient’s stay and after discharge.
Our Commitment To Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Kathy’s House values and celebrates the wealth of diversity and unique backgrounds of our guests, staff, volunteers, and the community members we serve. We strive to create a sense of belonging for all, ensuring that everyone feels valued, welcomed and respected.
Our work is about caring for people. We provide a home of healing to support patients and their families fighting critical illnesses. We have compassion for our guests and their families as they face some of the most challenging times in their lives. Each year, Kathy’s House is home to over 1,500 guests – people who come from many different states and represent different races, ethnicities, and cultures. At Kathy’s House, our guests listen, support, celebrate, and console each other. We are honored that our guests enter our House as strangers and leave as friends.
As part of the healthcare community, we recognize the intersection of racism, social injustice, and health. Systemic inequities can limit access to healthcare services, fostering disparities in health that span generations. As a vital part of the SE Wisconsin health care supply chain, we are deeply committed to addressing these inequities.
It’s time for real, believable, meaningful action to promote a national culture based on equity, inclusion, and respect for all. We believe positive change and progress on this requires continuous and intentional commitment and action. We pledge to learn, listen, discuss, participate, and do the work necessary to create equitable communities.
